Dr. Rebecca Jackson
Medical Director
Being an animal lover for her entire childhood, it was inevitable Dr. Jackson would enter the veterinary field. She graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002 and has been practicing in the Triad of North Carolina since then. Her goal is to maximize client experience, patient compliance and comfort.
Dr. Jackson’s practice style is a bit different from most in that she doesn’t like to restrain the pets whenever possible. She believes in them consenting to treatments- which often means lots of special treats, attention, family present and for some, medications to help with anxiety. This approach has developed over the years through watching their body language and response to being handled by others around her. In 2016, the Fear-Free Veterinary Certification was started. She realized that what they were promoting is very closely aligned with the approach She had been developing with her own patients. She is now a level 2 Fear-Free Practitioner and working to become level 3 certified.
She likes working with anxious pets, especially those that have not had positive experiences with the veterinarian. She finds it rewarding to watch them relax and become open to an exam. She loves seeing the clients relax, too, as they watch their pet interact easier with the team. For some pets, it takes several visits of not pushing them past what they will allow. But most pets get to the point where they allow an exam with minimal restraint (just guiding hands). It’s amazing the extent to which high value treats, soft voices and a soft approach will help them relax.
By partnering with the pet families to get as complete a picture as possible of that pet’s symptoms, paired with a complete physical exam, She is able to present the best treatment plan possible to them. From there, they discuss and determine together how they are going to move forward with that pet. She strives to work with people within their means so they can leave the hospital comfortable with her and the care they are providing their pet.
When not at work, Dr. Jackson enjoys spending time with her daughter, Sarah. Together they care for their three-year-old rescue golden retriever, Birdie, and their cats Peanut and Nugget
